Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology

In this required course we look at the speech producing apparatus, the articulation and transcription of speech sounds, as well as their acoustics and perception. This will be followed by an introduction to general phonology and a description of the English sound system(s). Students will learn to transcribe short passages of spoken English. This course is held every semester.
